The Health, Education and Social Services Committee considered                 
SENATE BILL NO. 156 An Act requiring mandatory mediation of                    
child custody disputes except in extraordinary circumstances; relating         
to modification of child custody or visitation rights; amending Alaska         
Rule of Civil Procedure 100; and providing for an effective date               
and recommended it be replaced with

An Act requiring a court to order parties involved                             
in child custody or visitation matters to attend an                            
educational presentation about mediation; and                                  
allowing the presentation to be through written                                
materials when necessary.
